When I read this title to my husband, he raised his eyes. He judges me also. He thinks using ChatGPT makes me a lazy person. But please bear with me so I can explain? I promise you it’s worth it!
I have to admit : when people ask me how my 2024 year was, all I can say is that it was amazing.
Not only because I gave birth to an incredible little girl but also because work has been stimulating, exciting and for the first time in years, not overbearing.
There’s Instagram, and then there’s reality. The same goes for substance. There’s substance and then there’s the way you go at expressing it.
Writing a complicated email takes me forever and gives me acne. A difficult email goes from a client asking for a discount I’m not ready to give, to someone I forgot to reply to and have to say sorry to contractors I need to cancel. It takes time, it takes a certain kind of wording and it takes up a lot of mental space.
Above all, it takes me forever and I tend to just directly put to paper my train of thoughts.
Let me tell you my friends, that is never a good idea.
The way I write is abrasive, harsh, too direct and it has no rhythm or starting point or conclusion - my emails were a hot mess. I used “were” because that’s before I discovered the power of ChatGPT.
I know it’s cool to hate it, but I think it’s cooler to learn how to use it - it’s not disappearing anytime soon and kids nowadays constantly work with it so we might as well … embrace it? It can enhance what you do, whilst still using your own neurones. I’m not talking about the boring, automated emails I receive from young people who want an internship : they all have the same style, they’re all written by ChatGPT. I’m talking about writing your email as you would and then tell ChatGPT to make this email “more friendly and professional”.
And there’s the magic: instantly, you get this perfectly framed email, that’s kind, helpful, gets the point accros whilst leaving a window open for an opportunity, it’s basically genius. ChatGPT has become the elevated version of myself and I love it.
Essentially, I probably would have ended up writing the same email … but 4 hours later.
My days are so much more efficient, my team and I get moving way faster, it unblocks what used to be a sticky situation almost instantly.
From helping me write a newsletter title to checking my emails for spelling mistakes or summarizing a long presentation in 10 bullet points, I can happily say that my life is better since I’ve been using ChatGPT, only if you really use it whilst still putting effort into it.
Below is a LinkedIn post I wrote before and then the ChatGPT version :
So I want to know if you’re still resisting it or like me only using it for difficult and sometimes awkward emails ? And what are your thoughts on it ?
Ps: this was not written or corrected by ChatGPT so please excuse any mistakes!
I totally agree! For me, this is the equivalent of that meme going around re: what we want Ai to do and not do to make our lives easier. I use it to refine cover letters, and now I’ll use it for Linked In as I resist posting there due to overthinking my wording!
Totally agree, makes admin job easier and also daily work life more efficient if used well.
